Press Release - Friday, November 14, 2008

CHICAGO—In recognition of his environmental leadership in the corporate sector, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Director Doug Scott honored Thomas L. Trueblood, Director of Green Diesel Technology Public Affairs at Navistar, with the Bill Compton Corporate Environmental Stewardship Award.

The Award was named after its first recipient, Bill Compton, environmental manager for Caterpillar Inc., who received the award not only for his work at Caterpillar in Illinois, but also for his service on environmental stewardship to the company's international business operations.

"It is with great pleasure that I present Tom Trueblood with this award," said Scott.  "I thank him for his leadership and his staunch support of agency programs."

The Award was presented tThursday, Nov. 13,  at a meeting of the Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative in Chicago.  Trueblood, who handles state government relations at Navistar, was nominated by Darwin Burkhart, manager of the Illinois EPA's alternative fuel clean air programs.  "During the past 15-plus years, Tom has been a great resource and educated me on diesel engines and the diesel industry, and he was always available to talk and answer my questions," said Burkhart.

Trueblood has been a long time mainstay of the Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative. He has worked closely with Illinois EPA since the early 1990s on this issue, serving on the Alternate Fuels Advisory Board and the Clean Diesel Workgroup. He was also a key resource in helping Illinois EPA launch the successful Clean School Bus Program and other diesel retrofit program activities.

Since 1977, Trueblood has held a number of positions with Navistar, and its predecessors, International Harvester and International Truck and Engine Corporation.  In February, 2003, he was named Director of Green Diesel Technology Public Affairs, recognizing his crucial role to change the public perception of diesel engines and the advancements in technology on the path to a goal of near-zero emissions.
