Nauvoo Pageant to perform "Our Story Goes On" July 13 at Old State Capitol

Press Release - Thursday, July 10, 2008

SPRINGFIELD - "Our Story Goes On," a musical performance about the joys and triumphs of life, will be presented by the Nauvoo Pageant core cast on Sunday, July 13 at the Old State Capitol State Historic Site in downtown Springfield. Show times are 4 and 7 p.m. There is no admission charge, but donations will be accepted to assist with the restoration of the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices.

Through popular show tunes and other American classics, "Our Story Goes On" will take the audience on a journey from birth to the end of life. The music is woven into a touching tale of the treasured moments in life. The show is filled with laughter and tears for both young and old.

The show debuted last year in Nauvoo and was also presented in Keokuk and Keosauqua, Iowa, and additional, standing-room-only performances were added due to popular demand. The July 13 performance will be the first time it has been offered to audiences in central Illinois. "Our Story Goes On" is presented by the Nauvoo Pageant and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

The Nauvoo Pageant, in its fourth year of production on the large outdoor stage in Historic Nauvoo, has a cast of nearly 200. With music, drama, dance and humor, it tells the story of 1840s Nauvoo and a people who built what was little more than a swamp into a thriving city, the largest in Illinois at that time. Pageant performance dates are Tuesdays-Saturdays, July 11 to August 8, beginning at 8:30 p.m.

The Old State Capitol State Historic Site, administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, was the seat of Illinois government from 1839 to 1876. It is open daily during the summer for free public tours.
