Lame Duck Lincoln

Press Release - Friday, January 04, 2008

SPRINGFIELD - Abraham Lincoln's single term in Congress will be examined during a presentation on Wednesday, January 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. The program is part of the continuing education series for Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum volunteers, and is free and open to the public.

Kelley Clausing and John Lupton from The Papers of Abraham Lincoln will discuss Lincoln's only term in Congress from 1847 - 1849 and how he handled his role as a lame duck freshman and the only Whig member from the Illinois Congressional delegation. Lincoln's legal writings and how they contribute to our understanding of his legal career will also be discussed.

Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum volunteers are needed to greet visitors and assist with special events and educational programs. They may also take advantage of continuing education programs like the January 9 event. For more information, contact Volunteer Services Coordinator Linda Bee at (217) 558-8872.
