Gov. Blagojevich announces $164,000 in snowmobile trail grants

Press Release - Wednesday, October 25, 2006

SPRINGFIELD - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded $164,300 in snowmobile trail grants to three local governments and eight private organizations for safety equipment, safety improvements and maintenance of public-access snowmobile trails in Illinois.

"These grants will help make sure snowmobile riders find safe public-access trails throughout Northern Illinois," said Gov. Blagojevich.  "This program provides support to our local partners to keep trails clearly marked and properly maintained for the thousands of people who enjoy snowmobiling during the winter."

The state snowmobile grant program is funded entirely by snowmobile riders through registration fees.  The cost to register a snowmobile is $18 for three years.  There are more than 40,000 registered snowmobiles in Illinois.

The snowmobile grant program is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).  Applications for the next round of grants are available by contacting the IDNR Division of Grant Administration, One Natural Resources Way, Springfield, IL, 62702-1271, or by calling 217/782-7481.  Applications are accepted March 1 to May 1.
