AMERICAN BALD EAGLE SOARS OVER U.S. CELLULAR FIELD TO BENEFIT ILLINOIS MILITARY FAMILY RELIEF FUND

Press Release - Friday, May 19, 2006

CHICAGO—Today, "Challenger" - a 18 year- old American Bald Eagle - soared through the skies over U.S. Cellular Field during the singing of the National Anthem before the Chicago White Sox vs. Chicago Cubs Crosstown Classic game to raise awareness of the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund.

Challenger has performed at five World Series games, the Fiesta Bowl, and countless major league baseball and National Football League games.

"The bald eagle symbolizes strength and independence," Quinn said.  "This Saturday is Armed Forces Day and we remember those who have answered our country's call to duty to protect our democracy and freedom."

The American Bald Eagle has been the central image used in the Great Seal of the United States since 1782 and in the Illinois state seal since it was a territory in 1809.  Once on the endangered species list, the bald eagle population is now growing, especially in Illinois which is the home to more bald eagles than any other state in the continental United States.

Quinn was joined by Richard Castelini, Vice President of Consumer Marketing for CareerBuilder.com, the nation's leading recruitment resource. CareerBuilder.com is sponsoring Challenger's visit. Through more than 130 local newspapers, CareerBuilder.com reaches a print circulation of more than 15 million readers.

"The Challenger flight pays tribute to an extraordinary group of men and women," said Castelini. "CareerBuilder.com is proud to sponsor this important event and join with Illinois families to celebrate and honor America's soldiers."

The Illinois Military Family Relief Fund assists the families of Illinois National Guard members and reservists called to active duty who may be facing financial hardships with expenses such as rent, groceries, or utility bills. The Fund has distributed more than $3.6 million to more than 6,800 Illinois military families.

Currently, more than 3,800 Illinois National Guard members and reservists are serving on active duty in the Global War on Terrorism.
