Students qualify for National History Day competition during annual Illinois History Expo

SPRINGFIELD - Junior and senior high school students from across Illinois have qualified to compete in the National History Day competition to be held June 11 - 15, 2006 in College Park, Maryland.  These students were chosen from more than 1,400 students who competed in the Illinois History Expo held May 3 in Springfield. 
 
            "These students stand an excellent chance of taking home awards at National History Day," said Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (IHPA) Director Robert Coomer.  The Agency sponsors Expo in cooperation with the Chicago Metro History Education Center.
 
            The Illinois History Expo is coordinated by the IHPA's Education Services Program, which also publishes the on-line student history magazine Illinois History, and Illinois History Teacher, which contains teaching materials.  For more information on the program, visit www.Illinois-History.gov.
