Illinois DCFS receives $9,200 and hundreds of childcare items from Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
CHICAGO - Tonight, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) will join Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.'s Centennial Regional Conference at McCormick Place in Chicago to accept a donation of $9,200 and hundreds of onesies, bottles, diapers, wipes and other childcare items.
The donation is a result of a months-long collection drive, Project Cradle Care-Bottles for Babies (PCC B4B), spearheaded by Sigma Gamma Rho to bring awareness and advocacy to the needs of minority women and their maternal health and perinatal needs. The donated items will be delivered to DCFS offices statewide and distributed to families served by the department.
"I cannot thank Sigma Gamma Rho and their membership enough for thinking of DCFS when it came time to choose a recipient of their fundraising efforts this year," said Illinois DCFS Director Heidi E. Mueller. "Diapers, wipes and all the gear babies need are expensive, and this generous donation will immediately impact the lives of new and expectant mothers across Illinois and help the youngest children in our care get off to the best start possible."
