Gov. Pritzker Announces One Appointment to Boards and Commissions

Dawn Brown will serve as a Member of the State Board of Health.* With over 24 years of clinical and educational experience, Brown currently serves as the Assistant Chair of Curricular Affairs and as an Assistant Professor in the Northwestern University Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences. Brown earned board-certification in orthopedic physical therapy from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, and uses this content expertise in her pedagogy, andragogy, and outpatient clinical practice. She is a national speaker and published researcher on topics relevant to leadership, motivation, and belonging in physical therapy education and clinical practice all through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dedicated to being an agent of positive transformation, Brown is an active member and leader within numerous physical therapy and healthcare associations including the American Physical Therapy Association and the National Association of Black Physical Therapists. She is a champion of promoting health equity and access so that all individuals have an opportunity to live their healthiest life possible regardless of their circumstances and sociocultural identities. Brown earned a Bachelor of Psychology and Master of Physical Therapy from Northwestern University, her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Alabama State University, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from Northern Illinois University.
