Illinois EPA Announces the Successful Completion of Compliance Testing at Medline Industries, Inc.

Press Release - Friday, March 27, 2020

WAUKEGAN —The Illinois EPA is announcing that Medline Industries, Inc. in Waukegan has successfully completed the required compliance testing pursuant to P.A. 101-22, also known as the Matt Haller Act, and an Illinois EPA construction permit.  The testing regime included the facility's negative pressure system, continuous emissions monitoring system, and stack emissions.  The testing was conducted by a third-party contractor, and Illinois EPA was on-site to monitor and ensure that all testing was conducted according to all applicable standards.

The Illinois EPA has reviewed the final reports for the negative pressure system, continuous emissions monitoring system, and stack emissions, as well as a post-construction and testing modeling report, and confirmed that Medline has demonstrated compliance with the Matt Haller Act and permit.  Following consultation between the Illinois EPA and the Illinois Attorney General's Office, and pursuant to the Matt Haller Act, the facility is authorized to resume full commercial sterilization operations.

Medline is required to maintain and operate its negative pressure system and continuous emissions monitoring system and to comply with the monthly and annual caps on ethylene oxide emissions as set forth in its Illinois EPA construction permit.  Additionally, Medline is required to conduct annual testing of its continuous emissions monitoring system and stack emissions.

The full test reports are available on the Illinois EPA website:
