Gov. Pritzker Appoints New Director of Professional Regulation
Building on a strong team of diverse experts in their fields, Governor JB Pritzker announced the following appointment in his administration:
ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF FINANCIAL AND PROFESSIONAL REGULATION
Cecilia Abundis will serve as Director of Professional Regulation at IDFPR.* Abundis currently serves as an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Fraud Bureau of the Illinois Attorney General's Office, where she investigates companies and individuals for violations of the state's consumer protection laws. Abundis has investigated unauthorized immigration services providers, mortgage lending institutions, mortgage brokers, national banks, sub-prime auto lenders, auto manufacturers, auto suppliers, car dealerships and for-profit schools. She also regularly appears on Spanish-language media discussing consumer protection issues and has helped train Mexican prosecutors in trial advocacy skills in collaboration with the Conference of Western Attorneys General's Alliance Partnership. Prior to joining the Illinois Attorney General's Office, Abundis was an Equal Justice Works ("EJW") Fellow with the Lawyers' Committee for Better Housing, where she created the source of income project. Under this project, she represented tenants and fair housing organizations that were victims of housing discrimination as well as tenants in eviction proceedings. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and earned her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law.
