Champaign Central High School, Champaign Jefferson Middle School and Next Generation School of Champaign Take Top Team Honors in State Archery Tournament
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Students from Champaign Central High School took first place in the High School Division of the National Archery in the Schools (NASP) Illinois State Tournament, conducted on April 6-7 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.
Champaign Central's Team #1 won the High School Division title with a score of 3,387 in the two-day competition, edging out Champaign Centennial High School's Team #1 (3,383). Danville's Schlarman Academy Team #1 placed third in the High School Division.
In the Middle School Division, Champaign Jefferson Middle School Team #1 took first place (3,387), followed by Canton Ingersoll Middle School and Champaign Jefferson Middle School Team #2. The Elementary School Division champions were from Next Generation School in Champaign (2,858), followed by Georgetown-Ridge Farm Team #1 and Danville Schlarman Academy elementary teams.
The top individual performance in the tournament belonged to Samantha Hartman-Stackhouse of Lincolnshire Stevenson High School, with a score of 296. The top male individual score was recorded by Will Ashley of Canton High School (292).
More than 1,000 students competed in the NASP Illinois State Tournament, which was hosted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Top finishers qualified for the NASP National Tournament on May 10-12 in Louisville, KY.
