Press Release - Thursday, April 17, 2014

HOMER GLEN – Governor Pat Quinn today announced an investment of $2.9 million for construction projects in Will County. Funded by his Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, the projects are part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to creating jobs and driving Illinois’ economy forward.

“These projects will improve traffic flow and safety in Will County, which benefits everyone,” Governor Quinn said. “The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive local economies forward.”

The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The intersection of 151st Street and Peskes Road in Homer Glen will be improved for $1,663,345 by P.T. Ferro Construction Co. of Joliet, the lowest of eight bidders. The work includes widening, resurfacing, curb and gutter, storm sewer, drainage structures and traffic signals.

A bridge over Plum Creek 1.4 miles east of Illinois Route 394 will be replaced for $1,043,882 by D Construction, Inc. of Coal City, the lowest of four bidders.

The City of Lockport will receive sidewalk, earth work, curb and gutter replacement, drainage structure adjustments, landscaping and other work at various locations for $247,255 by Davis Concrete Construction Company of Alsip, the lowest of 12 bidders.

“These roads are in sincere need of repair, and our community will greatly benefit from these renovations,” State Senator Donne Trotter (D-Chicago) said. “The maintenance of our transportation infrastructure is key to the sustainability of our business community and the community as a whole.”

“These capital construction projects allow for important investments in our roads and bridges to help create jobs and put Illinoisans back to work,” State Representative Elgie Sims (D-Chicago) said. “I am encouraged to see projects like these to help improve our local economy and provide employment opportunities for many hard-working residents in the Southland who need them.”

The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
