Governor Quinn Announces $901,000 for Construction Projects in St. Clair County

Press Release - Thursday, December 19, 2013

O’FALLON – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $901,000 for construction projects in St. Clair County, part of his Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.

“This pedestrian-bike trail and bridge replacement make transportation safer and more efficient in the Metro East area,” Governor Quinn said. “The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy.”

The projects will be overseen by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The Madison Illini Trail from Mulberry Lane to Cedar Street in O’Fallon will receive work totaling $550,015 by Petroff Trucking Company, Inc. of Collinsville, the lowest of seven bidders. The project includes the construction of a pedestrian bridge, bike trail connector, sidewalks, curb and gutter, pavement markings, and signs.

A bridge carrying Illinois Route 13 over a creek nine-tenths of a mile northwest of Marissa will be replaced for $351,717 by Thiems Construction Company, Inc. of Roxana, the lowest of seven bidders.

“Projects like this create construction jobs for area companies, increase safety and improve our public spaces,” State Senator James F. Clayborne, Jr. (D-Belleville) said.

“Projects like this help to make local residents safer and improve the quality of life in our community,” State Representative Eddie Lee Jackson, Sr. (D-East St. Louis) said. “Besides maintaining our vital infrastructure, this project will increase vehicle safety and help provide economic activity through construction jobs.”

These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
