Governor Quinn Announces $640,000 for Macomb Airport Improvements

Press Release - Thursday, November 21, 2013

MACOMB – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a $640,000 capital investment for a construction project at the Macomb Municipal Airport. The project is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward. The contract was awarded following a competitive bidding process and addresses a critical infrastructure need while creating construction jobs.

“Investments in airports like this one in Macomb make them more efficient and safer while creating construction jobs,” Governor Quinn said. “This project will continue to ensure that Illinois has a strong, 21st century infrastructure.”

The project will involve the replacement of the airport’s electrical vault, airfield lighting, taxi guidance signs, and associated cable and duct work. J.F. Edwards Construction Company of Geneseo will perform the work for $640,953. The Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics will manage the project, which includes federal, state and local funding.

“Maintaining and upgrading Macomb's regional airport is essential for reliability, accessibility and safety," State Senator John Sullivan (D-Rushville) said. “Macomb businesses, university and hospital personnel and individuals will benefit from these upgrades by providing better access to air travel.”

The state funds for the project come from Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which supports more than 439,000 jobs over six years. It is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
