Governor Quinn Announces $1.3 Million for Will County Construction Projects
LOCKPORT – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $1.3 million for construction projects in Will County. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“These projects will help maintain our infrastructure and employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy,” Governor Quinn said.
A bridge carrying Division Street over the I & M Canal in Lockport will be replaced for $1,100,949 by Herlihy Mid-Continent Company of Romeoville, the lowest of six bidders. The project will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The northbound and southbound Prairie View Rest Areas along I-57 near Monee will be upgraded with new heating and air conditioning systems and associated ductwork, piping, controls and electrical work. Anchor Mechanical, Inc. of Chicago was the lowest of four bidders at $207,362. The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board.
"The Division Street Bridge is a lifeline between Crest Hill and Lockport,” Senator Pat McGuire (D-Crest Hill) said. “The Governor's action should save drivers time, ease the burden on the 9th Street Bridge, and put people to work."
“The improvements to the Division Street bridge will not only increase safety, but they will also make it easier for residents to reach their destinations,” State Representative Emily McAsey (D-Lockport) said. “The bridge preserves and protects the I&M Canal recreation corridor that residents and tourists enjoy throughout the year. I will continue to support projects that improve our infrastructure and help our community grow.”
These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
