Governor Quinn Announces $13.6 Million for Construction Projects in Cook County
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $13.6 million for construction projects in Cook County. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“These construction projects will improve transportation safety and efficiency in Cook County and make key improvements at a mental health center,” Governor Quinn said. “They will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy as well.”
The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation except where noted.
Brookfield
The intersection of Golfview Road and 31st Street will be reconstructed and widened, including new storm sewer, traffic signal, lighting, building removal and landscaping, for $3,522,797 by Central Blacktop Co., Inc. of LaGrange, the lowest of five bidders.
Chicago
Exterior repairs to buildings at the University of Illinois at Chicago will be done for $3,095,150 by K.R. Miller Contractors, Inc. of Inverness, the lowest of nine bidders. The buildings are the Art & Design Hall, College of Urban Planning, and the Public Affairs Hall. The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board.
Curb and gutter repairs will be made at various locations near Midway Airport for $198,301 by Sumit Construction Co., Inc. of Chicago, the lowest of five bidders.
Intermittent resurfacing on U.S. Route 41 (Lake Shore Drive) from North Avenue to Balbo Drive will be done for $547,774 by J.A. Johnson Paving Company of Arlington Heights.
Chicago Heights and Glenwood
Two segments of a bicycle trail will be constructed, including drainage improvements, bridges, retaining walls, pedestrian signals, erosion control, traffic control, and other items. The project will complete work on the Thorn Creek Trail from 26th Street to 183rd Street. D Construction, Inc. of Coal City was the lowest of five bidders for the work at $4,637,908.
Dixmoor and Riverdale
A new storm sewer will be constructed from the pump station on Ashland Avenue to the Little Calumet River for $268,820 by Ed Weathersby & Sons Plumbing, Water, Sewer, Excavation, Inc. of Harvey, the lower of two bidders.
Hines
The residential pavilions at Madden Mental Health Center will be renovated in a three-part project administered by the Illinois Capital Development Board. The general remodeling and rehabilitation work will be done by Tri-State Enterprises, Inc. of Romeoville for $302,786, the lowest of three bidders. The ventilation work will be performed by R.J. Olmen Company of Glenview for $136,685, the lowest of three bidders. And the asbestos abatement will be done by Colfax Corporation of Chicago, the lower of two bidders at $13,700.
Maine Township
Work on Harrison Street from Meadow Lane to Des Road, and at Central and Des Roads, will be completed for $117,175 by Sumit Construction Co., Inc. of Chicago, the lowest of eight bidders. The work will include sidewalk construction, traffic control, and street crossing improvements.
South Chicago Heights
Jackson Avenue from Sauk Trail to 26th Street will be resurfaced for seven-tenths of a mile for $264,258 by Iroquois Paving Corporation of Watseka, the lowest of four bidders. The project will also include curb and gutter repair, patching and pavement marking.
Stickney
Ridgeland Avenue from 43rd Street to Pershing Road will be resurfaced, curb and gutter replaced, sidewalk constructed, and parkway restored for $370,756 by James D. Fiala Paving Co., Inc. of Bolingbrook, the lowest of three bidders.
Worth
The Village of Worth will receive work on 112th Street from Oak Park Avenue to Nashville Avenue, and on 115th Street from Oak Park Avenue to Ridgeland Avenue. The work includes new sidewalks, curb and gutter, catch basins, pipe culverts and storm sewers. Davis Concrete Construction Company of Alsip was the lowest of eight bidders for the work at $234,665.
These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
