IDOT, Tollway, and ISP Announce Winter Preparations and Urge Drivers To Stress Safety Message: “Ice and Snow – Take it Slow”
SPRINGFIELD - Illinois transportation and law enforcement officials today urged motorists to start preparing themselves and their vehicles for winter driving conditions. Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Illinois Tollway crews and Illinois State Police (ISP) are making final preparations to get the state’s frontline winter teams and equipment ready for emergency operations for the upcoming snow and ice season.

Illinois Transportation Officials and ISP Announce Operation Save 100 Kickoff
IDOT, ISP and Local Law Enforcement Agencies Partner to save 100 Lives and $100 million by New Year’s Day
SPRINGFIELD –The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) alongside Illinois State Police (ISP) today announced an all out Operation Save 100 campaign aimed for Illinois to have at least 100 less fatalities on its roadways this year as compared to last year. If successful, Illinois will have set an historic record by experiencing the fewest motor vehicle fatalities since 1921.

Governor Quinn Makes CTA Board Appointments
Adds Public Interest Lawyer, Environmental Policy Expert
CHICAGO – November 11, 2009. Governor Pat Quinn today appointed a public interest attorney and an environmental policy professional to the board of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Joining the transit board is John Bouman, president of the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, and Katie McClain, Chicago City Director for the Clinton Climate Initiative of the William J. Clinton Foundation.

Hundreds of Trees Planted to Help Memorialize the Fallen and Become a Place of Remembrance for Victims’ Families
MARSEILLES - In honor of Veterans Day, Illinois Transportation Secretary Gary Hannig announced today the dedication of the Illinois Fallen Soldier Tree Memorial in Illini State Park in Marseilles. The new memorial park was put in place to honor Illinois Soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Television Show Features Nationally Recognized, Award Winning Teen-Led IDOT Program Geared Towards Saving Lives
Illinois Department of Transportation and “The Global Learning Series” to Raise Awareness of Teen Safe Driving in "Understanding Traffic Safety"
SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Transportation Secretary Gary Hannig announced today that “The Global Learning Series,” an education-focused television program distributed to public television, will feature Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Division of Traffic Safety’s “Operation Teen Safe Driving” program in the first of a series of segments called, “Understanding Traffic Safety.” The “Global Learning Series” is expected to feature officials from IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety, law enforcement, program participants including students from Lanphier High School and a student from a winning school.

Illinois Department of Transportation Operation Teen Safe Driving Program Nationally Honored
(Washington, DC) -- The Roadway Safety Foundation (RSF) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) today recognized the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Division of Traffic Safety’s (DTS) “Operation Teen Safe Driving” program for its efforts to reduce teen driving-related deaths by implementing innovative peer-to-peer programs.
