Governor Pat Quinn Names New State Police Chief
Appoints Military Veteran Jonathon E. Monken as Director


	CHICAGO – March 22, 2009. Governor Pat Quinn today named a new director of the Illinois State Police. He appointed decorated military veteran Jonathon E. Monken as director. “Jonathon is a battle-tested leader and administrator who will provide this important agency with dynamic and energetic leadership,” said Governor Quinn. A former U.S. Army Captain with the Multi-National Corps-Iraq Civil-Military Relations, Monken served as Executive Officer for the Corps’ staff that coordinated all Civil-Military Operations nationwide in Iraq. As a Tank Platoon Leader, Monken led more than 100 combat missions in the “Sunni Triangle” of Iraq without the loss of any soldiers. “I want to thank Governor Quinn for this appointment and I look forward to serving and protecting the people of Illinois,” said Monken. Monken has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device for valor. A graduate of West Point, he graduated in the top one percent of his military class rank. The Illinois State Police’s mission is to promote safety to improve the quality of life in Illinois.
